Wendy Darling was a primary character in the novel Peter and Wendy. Since then she has featured in most of the following adaptations and retellings in literature, film and television. Some variations have the name of Gwen or Gwendolyne, a reference to the author James Matthew Barrie's origin of the name Wendy.

Tales of the Wendy[]

Wendy Darling is the main character in the Tales of the Wendy book series written by Erin Michelle Sky and Steven Brown. Brave and adventurous, she befriends the winged everlost leader Peter Pan, outwits the decorated Captain James Hook, and becomes the first woman to captain a British ship in the fight against the forces of darkness in Neverland.

Darling, Darling, Wendy[]

In the 2019 short film Darling, Darling, Wendy, Wendy Darling grew up to be married and had a daughter, but she was depressed and unhappy with her life as a grownup in the real world and longed desperately to go back to Neverland. Jealous that her daughter Jane would one day be taken to Neverland by Peter Pan just as she was when she was young, Wendy poisoned her daughter so that she would be too ill to fly and waited to meet Peter Pan herself. She finally did 15 years to the day they last met, but Peter refused to take her as she had become a monster, and Wendy discovered she could not fly as she was no longer young or innocent. Heartbroken, she allowed Jane to go with Peter and committed suicide after they left. She was played by Katherine Sainte Marie, who also wrote and co-produced the film.

Come Away[]

In the 2020 motion picture Come Away an alternative version of Wendy Darling (played by Ava Fillery) along with John (played by Jonathan Garcia) and Michael (played by Carter Thomas) appear in the story's conclusion with their mother (played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw) Mrs Darling. Who is revealed to be the grown up Alice Littleton; sister to Peter who has now become Peter Pan. The film ends with Alice heading upstairs on hearing a familiar crowing to find her brother's eagle feather lying beneath the wide open bedroom window. Implying her brother has taken his niece and nephews to Neverland.
