Rufio was a member of the Lost Boys; who had assumed command after their leader, Peter Pan left Neverland to grow up. When an adult Peter returned, Rufio did not believe that; he was truly Peter and refused to accept him.

But after Peter had regained his powers, Rufio gave him back his sword as a sign of acceptance. Rufio was killed; by Captain Hook and died in Peter's arms.

After Peter's confrontation; with Hook; which had ended; with his death, Peter passed on leadership over the Lost Boys to Thud Butt.

History[]

Rufio assumed leadership of the lost boys after Peter Pan had left Neverland to marry Wendy's granddaughter, Moira. He was one of the oldest Lost Boys and might have been in Neverland; prior to the traditional Lost Boys joining the Darlings on their trip back home. Though it may have been just soon after these events (this is somewhat clarified in the prequel novel Lost). In comparison to Pan, Rufio is very tyrannical and aggressive.

Rufio first appears; when the lost boys meet Peter Banning as he arrives on a windsurf skateboard to the praise of the others chanting him. Not trusting adults in general, Rufio orders the lost boys to kill Peter. After being chased sometime, Peter is cornered; by Rufio; but the latter chooses not to kill him. Rufio becomes evidently jealous; when the other lost boys start to believe that; Peter is their former leader. He reluctantly trains Peter to help the latter rescue his children from Captain Hook, though uses this as an opportunity to humiliate and spite Peter.

During an imaginary dinner, Rufio begins insulting Peter and is encouraged; by the other lost boys; until Thud sides with Peter; who eventually comes out on top; with those Lost Boys chanting Peter's name; instead of his. During a food fight, Rufio throws a coconut out of jealousy at Peter, though another lost boy hands a sword to Peter; which he uses to cut the coconut open. When Peter learns how to fly, Rufio surprises everyone; by handing back his sword to Peter, signifying his trust in him.

During the battle against the pirates, Rufio confronts Hook, implying the two have an ongoing rivalry. Peter tries to prevent Rufio from battling Hook; but is distracted; when he hears his daughter, Maggie call his name. This; allows Rufio to take Hook on in a one-on-one duel. But his pride gets the better of him; when he lets his guard-down; allowing Hook to mortally wound him. As he dies, Rufio tells a heartbroken Peter that; he wishes he had a dad like him; before succumbing to his wounds. Witnessing this, Peter's son Jack; who had been temporarily corrupted; by Hook, feels mortified that; he turned against Peter to side; with Hook.
